Swing Failure Pattern PaintBar adds an unmissable visual layer to your chart by coloring entire price bars when a Swing Failure Pattern fires. Green bars signal a bullish SFP — price wicked below a prior swing low but closed back above it, indicating a failed breakdown and potential reversal higher. Red bars signal a bearish SFP — price wicked above a prior swing high but closed back below it, indicating a failed breakout and potential reversal lower.

  • Green-colored bars mark bullish SFPs — failed breakdowns where the wick swept below a swing low but the close rejected back above
  • Red-colored bars mark bearish SFPs — failed breakouts where the wick swept above a swing high but the close rejected back below
  • BullSFPColor and BearSFPColor inputs let you customize the highlight colors to match your chart theme
  • Non-SFP bars retain their normal candlestick colors for zero visual noise
  • Includes the same quality filters: MinRejectionRatio and MinPierceDepth ensure only meaningful failures are colored
  • Bullish takes priority if both bullish and bearish SFP conditions fire on the same bar (extremely rare)

The PaintBar is the fastest way to spot SFP signals on a chart. When you see a green or red bar at a swing level, you know immediately that a failure pattern just occurred without reading any numbers or checking any annotations. This makes it invaluable during fast market conditions when prices are testing key levels.

All signals are guaranteed non-repainting. Once a bar is colored on close, the color will never change.

Who This Is For

Swing Failure Pattern PaintBar is designed as a visual confirmation layer that works alongside the chart indicator and ShowMe study. Use it when you want the fastest possible recognition of SFP signals at swing levels.

Apply it to the same chart as the Swing Failure Pattern chart indicator. The chart indicator shows swing level lines and wick extreme markers for context, and the painted bars show you exactly which bars produced the failure pattern. Add the ShowMe study for Rejection Ratio and Pierce Depth quality data at each signal.

Particularly effective on 1-minute to 5-minute charts during active trading sessions when prices frequently test swing levels. The color contrast between green/red SFP bars and normal candlestick colors makes failure signals visible instantly. When you see a colored bar at a swing level, you know liquidity was swept and rejected.

Works on any liquid market and any timeframe. Use the same quality filter settings (SwingStrength, MinRejectionRatio, MinPierceDepth) across all studies in the bundle for consistent signal detection.

Common Issues

I do not see any colored bars on my chart. The indicator is applied but nothing is painted.

SFPs are naturally rare. The PaintBar only colors the specific bars where an SFP fires — price must wick beyond a swing level and close back inside on that single bar. If the market is not testing swing levels, no colored bars will appear. This is normal. Lower SwingStrength to detect more swing levels, or reduce MinRejectionRatio and MinPierceDepth to capture weaker failures.

Can I change the SFP bar colors to something other than green and red?

Yes. To change colors, right-click anywhere on the chart, go to Studies > Edit Studies..., select the indicator, click the Inputs tab, and change BullSFPColor and BearSFPColor to any TradeStation color name (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, White, etc.) or RGB values. Choose colors that contrast well with your chart's normal candlestick colors for instant visibility.

I see a colored bar but it does not look like it wicked beyond a swing level on my chart.

The SFP may be referencing a swing level that is not visible at your current zoom level or chart history. The swing level could be from many bars back (up to MaxAge bars). Check the chart indicator with the same settings to see the swing level line and wick extreme marker. Also ensure SwingStrength matches between the PaintBar and chart indicator.
